Fervent: This. Means. War.

Theoden: I will not risk open war.
Aragorn: Open war is upon you, whether you would risk it or not.

THIS is how Priscilla Shirer opens her book. I mean, the geek in me just screamed for joy over this! Anyone that can quote LOTR or better yet, uses it the further their idea of spiritual warfare, is my bestie.

This woman is just amazing. Everything from her writing style, to syntax, to just the context of the book in general is spot on. If you enjoyed War Room at all (WHAT? You haven't seen it yet? Who are you?) you will love this book. There is no doubt in my mind about that.

Fervent is "A Women's Battle Plan for Serious, Specific, and Strategic Prayer"
And that it is.

This book is only for those that are SERIOUS about prayer, or at least are wanting to get there. This is about furthering your relationship with the Lord on such an intimate level that Satan despises for you to open your mouth.

Prayer has been a weak point in my life for sometime. I'd do it, but my heart was never in it. I'd believe in things for others-but never for myself. Every time something bad happened, I would blame myself and say, "Well, I probably deserve it."

Fervent has opened my to the beauty and complexity, of REAL prayer.

If I were your enemy, I'd seek to dim your passion.
If I were you're enemy, I'd seek to disintegrate your family.
...I'd magnify your fears.
...devalue your strength.

These insights to the enemy's "battle plans" are how Shirer opens up each chapter. I was floored at how many described things I was going through. Why wasn't I fighting back? Why did I think all bad things stemmed from ME (although, sometimes it is just a "reaping what you sow")? Why wasn't I taking prayer more seriously than just a few words before I went to bed?

I had forgotten how powerful prayer is-and the enemy loves that.

This book has been a guide in reminding me HOW to pray. No, it's not a replacement for the Word by no means, but it's like having a friend hold your hand to walk you through the Truth. Seriously. Shirer writes as if she knows me. I felt like she had been peering into this past year and knew EXACTLY what I needed to head to get off of my rear-end and start fighting back. I am NOT Satan's doormat.

I am a child of the Most High.

I better start acting like it.

Each chapter, beginning with the third is a different strategy. She discusses different ways we are attacked, and what scriptures battle that.

Passion? "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit withing you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh." Ezek. 36:26

Family? In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence, And his children will have refuge."
Prov. 14:26

Pressures? "You will know the truth and the truth shall set you free." John 8:32

The end of each chapter gives you a boatload of scriptures to pray over those situations. She literally gives you the ammo needed to have victory.

In her own words,

You're going to march out of here with some battle options that will not only help you deflect every assault trained against you but will allow you to actively advance against them-against scrappy, tenacious opposition.

If you're not seeing things happening in your prayer life, if you're not even praying at all-read this book. Like I said before, this book is like having a friend walk through each battle with you. No, this isn't a book on how to reap the Lord's blessing and get rich-this is about fighting back. Fighting the way the Bible tells us we should, but aren't.

It's a beautiful and encouraging book that every woman on the planet should read.

WARNING-Fervent is NOT the kind of book you want to lend out. Keep it for yourself. In the back, it has areas to write down your own battle plans just like Mrs. Clara did in War Room

Have you read this book yet?
What did you think?
What areas of your life do you feel you're at war with?
