Synopsis:

A prehistoric fantasy—with allusions to Pride and Prejudice.

Hunting, gathering, and keeping his family safe—that’s the life seventeen-year-old Kol knows. Then bold, enigmatic Mya arrives from the south with her family, and Kol is captivated. He wants her to like and trust him, but any hopes of impressing her are ruined when he makes a careless—and nearly grave—mistake. However, there’s something more to Mya’s cool disdain…a history wrought with loss that comes to light when another clan arrives. With them is Lo, an enemy from Mya’s past who Mya swears has ulterior motives.

As Kol gets to know Lo, tensions between Mya and Lo escalate until violence erupts. Faced with shattering losses, Kol is forced to question every person he’s trusted. One thing is for sure: this was a war that Mya or Lo—Kol doesn’t know which—had been planning all along.

I've been waiting to eagerly for this book!!! It's been a while since I've read a good YA-and this one did not disappoint!!

"And I know at the moment...I will never have your friendship. I will never have your respect. if there was ever a chance for friendship, for trust, that chance was forever lost the moment i raised my spear as if to strike you."
Julie's writing is truly spot on. There's action. There's mystery. There's characters that you actually care what happens to them. There's that slow burn kind of romance. (Yay for no instalove!) There's incredible world building-you've just gotta read it to understand!

"And I see it: the ember that had been glowing in your eyes is ablaze."

"Ivory and Bone" reads like a movie in my head. Does that make sense? There's so much playing out, that my brain is going nonstop.  I kept seeing the characters from 10000 B.C. Honestly, because I've never read ANYTHING like this before. The prehistoric like setting is completely new to me. Are there more books written like this? I can't think of a single one. The uniqueness alone should motivate you to check this out. (I was so happy to find out this had 0 to do with Medieval England. Can I get an "Amen"?)

"I pull back and look into her eyes. The sun forms a tiny fire in each, a signal fire, a light far away, but bright enough to guide me into the future.

Annnnd it's written in first person. which gets big points for me. The writing style (like I've already said) is different and-as a writer-inspiring. Julie isn't copying anyone else. She's writing true-it's easy to see that. Just another true-book-lover's reason to pick this up.

"I cannot go into the past, I cannot stop change. Change is coming."

  1. We always try to transition slowly, and things go well. This sounds like a great food....if we decide to switch again I would definitely consider this one. www.petnewsnow.net/best-bark-collar-reviews
